Hypoallergenic kittens for sale

Allerca, a California-based biotechnology company, is taking orders for it's genetically engineered kittens. These $3,500 British Shorthair kittens will be modified so they do not produce the protein that causes some people to have allergic reactions.

With 17 percent of the population allergic to cats, I think this is a wonderful scientific breakthrough. However, I know there are many who may be concerned about the safety or ethical issues involved. Speak out! Share your opinion by posting a comment below or voting in the poll on the right.

I'm a cat lover and have always enjoyed having felines as pets, but I've always endured several symptoms of allergies due to the dander in my home. So often, I've thought about how wonderful it would be to have a cat I could snuggle up to without sneezing or rubbing my itchy eyes. I'm 100% for this new breed of hypoallergenic kitten, and I'd definitely own one as a pet. :)

I'm all for it. My family had cats all my life, but I also have cat allergies; I kept my two cats when I moved out because I get used to a particular cat after a while and it doesn't really bother me as long as I keep my house clean and don't stick my face in my cats' fur or anything, but I was debating whether or not I should replace my kitties after they pass on and this would be a great solution, if I can afford it, when that time comes.

I want a cat, but both my mom and I are allergic! I would really love someone to snuggle with in my bed, because my dog is too big. They are very expensive though!

I was very excited to find out about Allerca. My (highly allergic) husband and I worked many extra hours to save up the money, and we placed an order. But now I am hearing that the company has had legal problems and that the founder has been accused of scamming people through other business ventures in the past. The long waiting period is making me nervous, and I'd be very grateful if anyone out there can tell me if they've personally had dealings with Allerca, especially whether they received the kitten they paid for or not, whether they asked for their money back, and so on. I would be devastated not to be able to get a cat at all, and to lose so much money on top of that.

i love the idea of this!
i've wanted a kitten since i was a little girl, but my sisters and mom have severe allergies..
somehow i am the only one who managed to not have that allergy..
the only complaint i have is how expensive they are. $3500 is a little ridiculous for a cat... but i'll probably end up buying one anyway!! haha
